- Story Text: Security was tightened ahead of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in central Japan on Tuesday (May 24), as police set roadblocks and intensify patrolling near the meeting venue in Ise-Shima peninsular.
Road blocks were placed at a designated bridge leading to the meeting venue, and police officers were dispatched from nationwide prefectures to ensure thorough security and surveillance throughout the region.
Some residents said they felt safer in their neighborhoods as they could see an increase in police patrol.
"I feel so safe I can leave my house without locking it because there are so many police officers," Noriko Yamamoto, a resident living near Kashiko island, said.
But some said that the heightened security caused some inconveniences.
"I feel safer though the roads are a bit congested," Yuji Koiso, another resident said.
The two-day summit will be held from May 26 at the Shima Kanko Hotel on Kashiko island, where leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US will address global challenges such as the global economy slowdown, terrorism, and humanitarian crises, in a series of meetings.
