- Story Text:Residents of the Bavarian town of Grafing attended a church service on Wednesday (May 11) to remember the victims of a knife attack that took place on Tuesday killing one person and leaving three injured.
A man attacked passengers with a knife at a train station in the Munich area in southern Germany early on Tuesday (May 10), and despite early reports, the attack did not appear to be politically motivated.
According to police, the suspect used a knife with a 10 cm (4 inch) blade in the apparently indiscriminate attack, which took place around 5 a.m. (0300 GMT) in Grafing, a commuter town about 32 km (20 miles) southeast of the Bavarian capital in southern Germany.
"I am shocked. Above all I feel sorry for the relatives, who have to face this all of a sudden," said one resident Aleksander Klinke.
"I feel very bad. I have a son that is a daily commuter as well and now I am afraid something could happen to him as well," said another, Johanna Windisch, in tears.
One victim, a 56-year-old, died of stab wounds in hospital shortly after the attack. Police said three other men aged between 43 and 58 were injured, with one of them severely.
Police said the man had shown up in a different part of Germany a few days ago, suspected of using drugs and exhibiting behaviour suggesting he might be mentally disturbed.
Candles, messages and flowers were placed at the Grafing station in memory of the victims. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
