Summary:Not even Christmas diminished the vigilance of East German border guards. On 25 December 1963 they shot an East German youth as he lay on top of the wall helping another man over into West Berlin. He died in the arms of a West Berlin policeman. He was the 58th person to be killed while trying to scale the wall in the 30 months it had been in position.
