I believe that it is possible to settle the conflict in East Timor through conversations, through negotiations. that's why I came today to Sydney, and I'm going to Canberra." REPORTER: "And what do you hope to do in Canberra?" HORTA: "Well I'll try to see the Foreign Affairs Department, if possible, Senator Willesee, to table my proposals, calling for a united meeting between the three governments, Australian, American and Portuguese governments, and the leaders of the three organisations in East Timor, to reach a certain form of agreement, cease the fire, and work out a programme towards de-colonization, to enable the people in East Timor to decide by themselves their own future."
