- Story Text:Palestine commandos said on Monday (14 July) that they were still searching for an Israeli jet and pilot which they claim to have shot down during Israeli attacks on a Palestinian refugee camp in South Lebanon on Sunday (13 July).
The Palestine News Agency (WAFA) and a spokesman for one of the main commando groups -- the Popular Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PDFLP) -- said on Sunday that two Israeli fighter-Bombers were shot down, and the PDFLP claimed to have captured the Israeli pilot.
But WAFA report on Wednesday "It has been said that a 'plane was shot down. The search is still going on for the 'plant and the pilot". This was reiterated by a spokesman for the PDFLP.
An Israeli parachute found at Maghdousheh village near Sidon appeared to be one used for decoys, released by Israeli aircraft to confuse Sam-7 ground-to-air missiles, and not a pilot's parachute.
The Israeli attack on Ain El Heloue refugee camp on the outskirts of Sidon, took the form of two separate raids during Sunday afternoon. At least five people were killed and 35 wounded. The Israeli aircraft met with heavy retaliation from anti-aircraft guns from Lebanese and commando positions. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS - SOURCE TO BE VERIFIED
