(2 shots) 2.00 Second Day of the fourth test in Sydney...and Australia's Doug Walters out to Geoff Arnold. That was only the second over of play on Sunday.....but top scorer Greg Chappell fared better against England all-rounder Tony Greig, scoring a mighty four off this ball. But facing fast-bowler Arnold, Chappell hit this delivery awkwardly...and was out to a splendid catch by Greig. Five runs later, partner Rodney Marsh was also dismissed....clean-bowled by Greig. Greig again....this time to Ashley Mallett, who scores a powerful boundary. Twice during the second day, Mallet was struck by balls from Geoff Arnold..causing tension both on and off the pitch to rise. Arnold to Max Walker.....and the Australian bowler falls another victim to the combined pauly of Arnold and Greig. Last man Mallett faces Greig again...but this time moves across the wicket...and is given out leg before wicket. The end of Australia's first innings, with the score standing at four hundred and five. England to bat...and opener Dennis Amiss lets this Jeff Thomson bouncer go past for four byes. The opening pair of Amiss and David Lloyd seemed untroubled by the Australian early bowling from Thomson and Dennis Lillee. But first change bowler Max Walker shattered their equanimity by dismissing Amiss with a catch to Mallett with the score standing at thirty-six. Only ten runs later, Lloyd fell to a catch by Thomson off Lillee. England's fortunes looked shaky with the score forty-six for two. Colin Cowdrey...out to Thomson....and England stand at 69 for three. But solid defensive batting by Edrich and Fletcher brought the score to a hundred and six for three at the close of play.
