CU Moynihan speaking to newsmen outside UN (SOUND-ENGLISH 2.16 MOYNIHAN: "As you recall on Monday in an address to the General Assembly the United States said the moment of truth had arrived when the United Nations would have to face the fact of Soviet imperialism. Soviet colonialism in Africa and of the invasion by Soviet-sponsored troops of the nation of Angola and the question of would we face that moment of truth or would we settle for the big lie that it wasn't happening. Well we have done neither. In its action this afternoon the General Assembly has decided that it would certainly not go along with the big lie that only South Africans were involved here. Neither would it face the truth of Soviet imperialism and so the Soviets were able to avoid a vote and the motions were withdrawn. The Soviets were well-advised to avoid a vote because the only truthful outcome would have been to face the .... fact of their invasion of that area and they know it. Their apologists clearly know it in the lameness of the apologies they offered today and the eagerness with which they were willing to accept the avoidance of an actual showdown in terms of nations being counted whether they would face the facts, facts which no serious person any longer questions." The United Nations where on Wednesday tempers flared over the situation in the newly-independent African nation of Angola. In the General Assembly there were heated exchanges between China and the Soviet Union and later the United States. Soviet Ambassador Jacob Malik accused China of collusion with the United States and South Africa in an attempt to overthrow the legal government of the former Portuguese colony. He also attacked United States' representative, Mr. Daniel Moynihan who has attacked the Soviet involvement in Angola three times this week. Mr. Moynihan spoke to newsmen after Wednesday's session and accused the Soviet Union of imperialism in Africa.
