- Title: UNITED NATIONS: ISRAELI AMBASSADOR CHAIM HERZOG ACCUSES "CERTAIN MOSLEM ARAB COUNTRIES" OF TRYING TO DISRUPT ARAB-JEW HARMONY IN JERUSALEM.
- Date: 23rd March 1976
- Summary: 1. SCU Herzog speaking (SOUND) 1.18 HERZOG: "Mr. President, I can readily appreciate that perhaps the representatives of Pakistan, Libya, Saudi Arabia are incapable of comprehending the situation whereby courts of law independent of the executive. I can understand that a situation is incomprehensible to them whereby a court of law in Israel will not be dictated to, by any outside body, including the government of Israel, let alone this body. I don't expect them to know better, why should they? But, here you have a clear situation whereby the interests of the Moslems in this case are being protected by the government of Israel. Why then seek to attack the government of Israel who are protecting Moslem interests? The reason is that this false allegation has been prepared against Israel for political reasons in an attempt to disrupt the harmony and successful co-existence of Jew and Arab in Jerusalem, which has become a model for the world. This has been done by certain Arab Moslem countries in an atmosphere of blackmail and pressure which is irreconcilable with the faiths and beliefs of tens of thousands of Moslems throughout the world."
