Applause "...1975 was not a year for...sunshine patriots....it was a year of fear and alarm...." "....separate prices or progress...we are not only headed in a new direction ....but,.. the right direction." Applause "....first objective....sound economic growth...we must stop it cold (inflation) "Today the state of our foreign policy is sound and strong..." "We are at peace.....I will do all in my power to keep it that way" Applause "Our military forces are... capable and ready..." "Our principle alliance with the industrial democracies of the Atlantic community and Japan have never been more solid.....improving relationship with China....friendships in Latin-America, Africa and Asia continue... I say it's time we quit downgrading ourselves as a nation." Applause "...our responsibility to learn from past mistakes..look to the future...we must not close or lose all capacity to respond sort of military intervention. .....some hasty actions of the Congress.......inrespect of Angola were in my view short-sighted...." "A strong defence position.....is weight to our values and views in international negotiations......" ".....balanced agreement....minimise the threat of nuclear confrontation.." Applause "The crippling of our foreign intelligence services, increases the danger of American involvement in direct and armed conflict......without effective intelligence capability the United States stands blind-folded and hobbled." "....riches that cannot be eroded by inflation....I see these United States of America moving forward as before toward a more perfect union which the Government serves and the people rule....hard work and hard decisions made with courage and common sense .....the words I remember best were spoken by Dwight D. Eisenhower:" Initials Script is copyright Reuters Limited. All rights reserved
