Although at a tournament final for the second consecutive week, Fibak was no match for the powerful serve and pin-point volleys put to him by Vilas. Vilas claimed the opening set six games to four, then Fibak played his best tennis of the evening before falling to the relentless lefty in the second set by a seven to five count. With two sets behind him, Vilas cruised through the final set, six games to two, for his first victory on the Grand Prix tennis circuit this year. He won twenty-five thousand dollars.
