UNITED NATIONS: SOVIET, CHINESE AND BRITISH DELEGATES SPEAK DURING EMERGENCY MEETING FOLLOWING LATEST MID-EAST FLAREUP.
- Title: UNITED NATIONS: SOVIET, CHINESE AND BRITISH DELEGATES SPEAK DURING EMERGENCY MEETING FOLLOWING LATEST MID-EAST FLAREUP.
- Date: 17th April 1974
- Summary: 1. GV EXT United Nations. 0.13 2. SCU Soviet delegate speaking. 1.01 3. SCU China delegate 1.38 4. SCU British delegate. 2.13 Here is a translation of the speeches: MR. MALIK (TRANSLATION): Attention has already been drawn here to the statement, unprecedented in its cynicism made by the Minister of Defence of Israel, Mr. Dayan on the 13th of April, in which he, on behalf of the Israeli Government threatened to continue the acts of aggression against Lebanon. In his statement, on behalf of the Israeli Government, he threatened Lebanon, and independent sovereign state, a member of the Untied Nations, with the destruction and devastation of the whole southern part of Lebanon. This is a frightful and monstrous act in the second half of the 20th century. MR. CHUANG YEN (TRANSLATION): We believe that the Arab and Palestinian people present strength in their solidarity and uniting themselves with the Third World and all the forces that can be untied and persevering in their struggle will certainly foil all the super powers which are manipulating the middle east situation, defeat the Israeli aggressor, recover the occupied territories and regain their national pride. MR. IVOR RICHARD (ENGLISH): My delegation on previous occasions has made clear the view that a Government organised operation into the territory of another state cannot be justified under the charter. We believe that for the International community to accept such action as tolerable or justifiable would be a step towards a reversion to international anarchy.
