SV Turkish delegate speaks 2.13 PRESIDENT: "Accordingly I put to the vote the draft resolution containing Document S/11301. Fourteen votes in favour ... no votes against ... one abstention. The draft resolution is therefore adopted." ROSSIDES: "In our present time and age, of the rapidly evolving independent world when there has never as yet been such a widespread recognition of the necessity for unified political and social structures, Cyprus could not be compelled to move aggressively and perilously in the opposite direction. Nor could it do so without dire consequences to its people and to the cause of peace. In an age of evolving integration, Cyprus can not driven to its internal disintegration." OLCAY: "In 1968 when the inter-communal talks started, there were no terms of reference for these talks. They were conducted without any preconditions in an exploratory manner. Against this background it is a grave mistake for anyone to think that the idea of a unitary state was ever accepted by the Turkish side as a framework of discussions. The fact that the former Secretary General has made several statements which I consider unfortunate, about these inter-communal talks, which he should not have in the first place without previously engaging the agreement of the parties, could not impose a framework for the inter-communal talks which started much before the first of those statements.
