Sadat had said in a recent interview to her that the Israel border lines were invalid: Israel should give back land taken from the '67 war "...how do you consider that." RABIN: "From a military point of view he's completely wrong ...." Syrians would have been able to overrun Israel; Egyptians could have reached Beersheba - their airforce could have race Tel Aviv in 6 minutes had the borders been those Sadat suggests. ".... of great importance of the security of this country." INTERVIEWER: "Do you think that the Arabs will change their minds about the 1950 lands.?" RABIN: "Well I don't want to say what the Arabs .... peace of land." INTERVIEWER: "Mr. Prime Minister, Sadat said even if you gave back Sinai land"...... because Egypt entered the war with Syria it would only accept a dual agreement".. pact." RABIN: "I had never heard it so clear ...... from Sadat." INTERVIEWER: "Specifically what did you intend to give back to Egypt?" RABIN: "Well, I belive ..... If a peaceful agreement with Egypt were reached, Israel would give back the bulk of Sinal ... to the six day war lines." INTERVIEWER: "You would not give back all of the Sinai area you took?" RABIN: Not all of Sinai. INTERVIEWER: "You have said .... diplomatic and political concessions to Israel ... what are you asking for?" RABIN: "The first phase .... a non religious basis... agreements." INTERVIEWER: "So when you talk about diplomatic .... non religious issues." RABIN: On their side ... on our side withdrawal .... peace." INTERVIEWER: "Could you define non religious ... as you see it." RABIN: "Well, non religiousity means ........ pollical negotiations." INTERVIEWER: "Then what is peace?" RABIN: "Peace ... when they really live in peace." INTERVIEWER: "President Sadat said ... about the Palestinians." RABIN: "I believe ... only Arab country that has really integrated. INTERVIEWER: "The East Bank which is Jordan." RABIN: "The East Bank ... it is no solution to have a separate state for Balestinians ... i ... in the context of negotiations between Israel and Jordan." INTERVIEWER: "Mr. Prime Minister, how imminent is a war with Syria?" RABIN: "Well I think .... (hope) ... no war in theimmediate future." INTERVIEWER: "Mr. Prime Minister, Dr. Kissinger is not as popular now as he was. why not? .... not in your office." RABIN: "Well I believe Dr. Kissinger stayed popular in this country.... (some bought the settlement could have been better) .... as long as they don't want to negotiate without telling us." INTERVIEWER: "If anything happened to and he were no longer Secretary of State would you be very worried?" RABIN: "Well Israel's future does not depend on one person .... depends on it" INTERVIEWER: "There are some critisisms..... Mr. Kissinger is supposed to have slowed down the bill granting money and arms to Israel... to this." RABIN: "Well, I had talks .... Israel will get a good arms settlement; talks are to be in after the American ???lections.... for our defence." INTERVIEWER: "Mrs. Prime Minister are you worried at ... the new Congress approving this ... 4.5 million dollars." RABIN: "Well in my last visit .... we can rely on it." INTERVIEWER: "Mr. Prime Minister in the next negotiations ... (will it be) Egypt or Jordan." RABIN: "Israel is ready to negotiatiate ... (with and Arab country however Egypt is the key Arab country)... Egypt has to be the first to move in this direction." INTERVIEWER: "One of the possibilities .... is the return of Jeficho ... would that happen?" RABIN: "Well if there will be .... I will consider it a possibility." INTERVIEWER: "Anything else .. parting with?" RABIN: "Well it's better to leave it ..... no suprises." INTERVIEWER: "Mr. Prime Minister, shortly the U.N. will vote... on recognising the Palestine a??? liberation Organisation ... do you have any faith in he U.N. as for as Israel's concerned?" RABIN: "Well, I wouldn't like to use such strongterms but .... Arab nations have support of 4 blocks; including the European Block ... hey can do it." INTERVIEWER: "President Sadat talked about ..... he referred to the Geneva Conference ... that you want." RABIN: "Well, I believe that the best way ... is to get to the conference table however after a recession all you hear is the same old rhetoric etc. All over again.... peace." INTERVIEWER: "Thank you Mr. Prime Minister for your time." Initials Script is copyright Reuters Limited. All rights reserved
