Summary:Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, died in May. At his funeral, three million people packed the streets as the procession made its way to the banks of the Sacred river Jumna. Delhi had seen no crowds like these since the funeral of Nehru's old master, the murdered Mahatma Gandhi. As the flames leapt from the funeral pyre, all India mourned the man who had been the founder of her independence and her ruler for seventeen years.
