- Story Text:The report of a board of enquiry investigating Nigerian Army officers who fought for secessionist Biafra during the civil war was handed to the Nigerian Government in Lagos on Wednesday (13 May). The board which is considering the career prospect of the officers, presented its report to Nigerian Head of State Major-General Yakubu Gowon at a ceremony at his residence.
The enquiry was started soon after the end of civil war, and is headed by the Governor of the Western State, Brigadier Robert Adebayo. It consists of high ranking Nigerian Army officers.
The rebel leader, Major - General Ojukwu, is living in self-exile abroad, but Colonel Philip Effiong, the man who conducted the Biafra's surrender, is still in Nigeria. Replying to reports that Colonel Effiong had been placed under detention, a Government spokesman said last week that "we have no information on this." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS - SOURCE TO BE VERIFIED
