- Title: UN: JAPAN OUTLINES POLICY DURING UNITED NATIONS DEBATE ON CHINA
- Date: 18th November 1970
- Summary: 1. GV EXT. UN building 0.11 2. SV Japanese delegate 1.33 TRANSCRIPT: SEQ 2: TSIRUOKA: "In the view of my delegation the basic factors which must be taken into account in our approach to this all important and complex problem are the following: The first basic factor to be taken into account is that there are two authorities conforming each other across the Taiwan straits. Under such circumstances any attempt to solve the representation of China in the United Nations merely by expelling one of the two parties from the place it has legitimately occupied in this organisation and the replacing of it by the other would, inevitably, mitigate against a just and equitable solution of the problem. Second, another important factor to be stressed, with the position of the Republic of China wit regard to our organisation. The Republic of China was one of the principle founders of the United Nations and has faithfully carried out the responsibilities and obligations and the Charter, consistently upholding the authority and prestige of the organisation."
