- Date: 5th October 1970
- Summary: 1. GV Cairo street scene (2 shots) 0.19 2. CU Da'oud interviewer asks question 2.51 TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 2: REPORTER: Brigadier Da'oud may i ask a question? The commandos accused the military government of attempting to liquidate the Palestine Resistance movement. Do you think that this is the policy of some of the men? DA'OUD: It is not, for myself at least, the intention at all. It is not my intention because the resistance is in my opinion a holy right to the Palestinians to resist against the occupation of their country. And it is a kind of holy self defence and an attempt to liberate the occupied areas. The mistake that the Palestinians had felt after 1967, that in 1948 they had dropped arms and given up their case to others to deal with, and twenty years later without any settlement to the Palestine case or the refugee problem. In 1967 when the Palestinians found that they have lost the last part in their hands in Palestine, and it became under occupation, there was no way for themselves to liberate their country but to hoard arms again, and resist against occupation. So it is not in my mind to liquidate the resistance. It was in my mind and as indicated to me when I was appointed (I say "appointed" and not merely consented if I accept or I do not accept; but I was appointed) it was in my mind to bring peace, and peaceful living between the army and the Fedayeen and the resistance movement. REPORTER: As the resistance movement in one of its radio programmes said that they held you responsible for this as much as anyone. Have you met Palestine Resistance leaders since.... DA'OUD: I have met the Palestine Resistance, the central committee, headed by Yasser Arafat and discussed those things. And he declared it openly in front of everybody, rather than in front of the summit meeting and in front of some of the Arab leaders, that it never was in their minds that I am held responsible for what happened in amman at all.
