CU Bakur Shaib (Nigeria) speaks 2.27 TRANSCRIPTS MENSAH: It was been suggested that the activity of the FAO in the forthcoming years should be centred essentially on the collective and individual assistance to member countries on the following lines: Satisfaction of the needs of qualified professionals; Solution of unemployment problems; Development of inter-regional and international trade; Re-orientation of the modes of export. Also, agricultural training and planning; acceleration of stock-raising programmes; elaboration of food-growing plans; promotion of international and regional fishery discussion; acceleration of forestry research and exploitation; and reinforcement of all development research. SEQ. 4: SHAIB: "Now, we are, however, dismayed by the Director-General's statement that the strengthening of the regional office will be a process that must evolve naturally and be linked to the concrete aims. Mr. Chairman, we believe that the aim of the deputy regions are quite clear, and as far as a natural evolution is concerned, we all know, Mr. Chairman, that it is a very slow process. And, in fact, Director Jackson referred to the U.N. systems as a prehistoric monster in danger of extinction because it cannot keep pace with the rate of strange in the modern world. Mr. Chairman, the process of evolution in Africa cannot be left to nature alone and we would request the Director-General to take steps to note the matter of the regional office as a matter of urgency."
