- Date: 7th October 1970
- Summary: 1. GV Cross's home in Montreal 0.05 2. MV Mounties patrol outside house 0.13 3. CU Tetrault (SOF) 2.19 TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 3: REPORTER: "The FLQ has been fairly quiet in recent months. what do you thinks is the significance of this kidnapping? TETRAULT: Well, I think that it's the beginning of a new wave of terrorism and revolutionary actions by the movement. In line with its policies of attacking the Confederation and Federal Government on all levels. REPORTER: Why do you think they've picked on a British diplomat to kidnap? TETRAULT: Well, firstly I'm just giving a personal opinion here, but would think that one of the basic reasons would be because of Britain's traditional role as a colonial power in Canada. Of course, there are different problems that arise depending on the treatment that will be accorded to this British diplomat. I'm sure that in the tradition of these activities there won't be any complications if the Federal government doesn't make it impossible for the movement to ... REPORTER: To climb down gracefully? TETRAULT: Right. REPORTER: Do you think they're desperate enough to kill a hostage? TETRAULT: I don't think it would be a matter of being desperate. I'm just thinking that from the FLQ point of view it would be a purely military action against a servant of the British Government which actually occupies a colonial position in Quebec."
