Summary:The first American and the second human being to swim in Outer Space was astronaut Major Edward White. He remained there about twenty minutes hanging on the end of a gold-plated lifeline. He and Major James McDivitt made a record-breaking four day flight in June, orbiting the earth 62 times and covering over a million and a quarter miles.
