- Story Text: A small plane crashed in Bogota on Sunday (October 18), killing five people and seriously injuring six.
According to authorities, the aircraft came down in the residential neighbourhood of Villa Luz. It crashed into a bakery and set it on fire.
"We saw a big explosion and there was smoke, a lot of black smoke and tall flames and I went out to the street to look at what was happening and I saw the bakery in flames. It was burning. It was enveloped in flames. I thought that a car had crashed but when I got close, I heard someone say it was a plane that had crashed into a house," said local resident Mary Estela Prieto.
Aviation officials said the incident occurred just minutes after the plane took off from Bogota's El Dorado airport.
"Five people died, six were taken to hospitals like San Jose Children's and Simon Bolivar and there were seven people [on the scene] who did not have any life-threatening injuries," said firefighter Mauricio Ayala.
According to police, victims included the pilot, the plane's owner, a man, a woman and a minor.
Three homes were damaged in the incident. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
