- Story Text: Legendary music composer Burt Bacharach led a public sing-along at the West End opening night of the musical 'Close To You: Bacharach Reimagined' in London on Thursday (Oct. 15).
The show features 30 of his greatest hits including 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' and 'What The World Needs Now'.
Speaking after the show Bacharach summed up the night saying, "It's a great honour to have my music done like this and received like this. Very emotional. It's a very good night for me."
Lead performer Kyle Riabko said he hopes the show is a success. "Well we're gonna sit her now for a while and hope that this run goes as well as we hope it does and has success, we're loving being in London so much. And after that you know, who knows?" said Riabko.
Bacharach is a six-time Grammy Award and three-time Academy Award winner. He credits his young children keep him sprightly at 87 years old. "Well I've got two young kids. Young kids relatively for my age you know. 22 year old son. 19 year old daughter. And that's a big factor in keeping me young. Do I wish I'd had them when I was younger? This is the way, this is the way it happened," added Bacharach.
Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson was at the opening night at London's Criterion Theatre and said he loved the show. "Yeah I don't think anyone's ever seen anything like this before in the West End. It's funny because, you know, I was gonna say there's not a story, but I think there is a story cause you kind of write it yourself and the relationships between the people on stage and I love it. I loved it the first time and I loved it again," said Wilson.
