- Story Text: A cargo plane transporting supplies for Africa Union troops in Somalia made an emergency landing on Monday night (October 12), in the outskirts of the capital-Mogadishu.
The Egyptian-owned Airbus A300 went down some 20 kilometres (12 miles) outside the capital after making several unsuccessful passes over sea-side airport.
According to Lower Shabelle Deputy Governor, Ali Noor Mohamed, the crew of six survived the landing but two of them suffered light injuries having landed in an area controlled by Somali government troops and Africa Union troops.
"This plane crash-landed last night in this area which is in the outskirts of Mogadishu and the area was immediately sealed off. The six crew who were on board survived and were handed over to the AMISOM forces who took them to Mogadishu," said Mohamed.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear with officials pointing to technical failure or the airport's failure to take night landings. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
