- Story Text: Turkey's main opposition CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu on Sunday (October 11) said the interior and justice ministers must resign over twin bombings in Ankara in which at least 97 people were killed.
Kilicdaroglu said he had conveyed the message to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in a meeting earlier in the day.
"I think if both ministers respect their job and our people they should resign without any explanation. This is their political responsibility. If this doesn't happen, this trauma will deepen," Kilicdaroglu told a news conference in Ankara.
Turkey is targeting Islamic State in investigations of the double suicide bombing, while opponents of President Tayyip Erdogan blame him for the worst such attack in Turkish history.
"They told us that both suicide bombers were male. Security forces or police may unveil the details in the future," Kilicdaroglu added.
Government officials made clear that despite the attack on a rally of pro-Kurdish activists and civic groups, the elections scheduled for November will go ahead. Erdogan hopes he can restore an overall majority for the AK Party he founded.
Thousands of people gathered near the scene of the attack at Ankara's main railway station, many accusing Erdogan of stirring nationalist sentiment by his pursuit of a military campaign against Kurdish militants, a charge Ankara vehemently rejects. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
