- Story Text: An elderly Palestinian man was filmed amid clashes between Israeli army and Palestinian youths in Hebron on Saturday (October 10) as he was standing in front of the raised guns of the Israeli troops and confronting them before collapsing to the ground.
The video footage was filmed by Bilal alTaweel, a Palestinian man who was at the scene, and obtained by Reuters.
The elderly Palestinian, 65 years-old Ziyad Abu Haleel, is heard in the video telling the soldiers "you should be ashamed".
"I will not move. You should be ashamed of yourself. How do you fire your weapon on kids? That's not ok. Take your soldiers away from here. Do not fire your weapons. If they die you will die. Be careful, do not fire your weapons on kids. You should be ashamed of yourself. Do not raise your hand on me. You should be ashamed. You should be ashamed. Do not shoot. No, I will not move. I will not move. No, you can not arrest me. I will not move back. Take them, imprison them but don't shoot them. You want to kill more? Two martyrs were buried today and you want to kill more? Are you not ashamed? Are you not a human being? A dog a pig? Go to Ethiopia to kill. Do not shoot," Abu Haleel yelled at the soldiers.
The Israeli troops are heard telling the man to leave and go back or he would be arrested.
The man then puts his hand on his chest and collapses to the ground.
Reuters footage of the same incident shows that immediately after he collapses, a group of journalists comes to his assistance and carries him away.
A local Reuters crew confirmed on Sunday that Abu Haleel was released from the hospital after suffering from minor bruises from falling to the ground.
Reuters asked the Israeli army to comment on the incident, but no response was received.
Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli troops broke out on Saturday (October 10) near the West Bank cities of Hebron and Ramallah and again at the Shuafat camp.
Scores of Palestinians were injured, including 17 hit by live gunfire, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Protests have also spread to several Arab towns in Israel, with demonstrators blocking roads and throwing stones and firecrackers at police.
Twelve days of bloodshed in which four Israelis and 22 Palestinians, many of whom had carried out knife attacks, have been killed in Jerusalem, the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Gaza and Israeli cities have raised concerns that a new Palestinian uprising may be brewing.
Palestinians have been angered by events at the al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem's walled Old City and fear Israel wants to change the status quo at Islam's third holiest shrine, revered by Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and by Jews as the Temple Mount. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
