- Story Text: Thousands of people continued to cross from Serbia into Croatia on Wednesday (October 7) after arriving by bus at the border crossing between the villages of Berkasovo and Bapska.
The buses, which run directly from a registration centre in Presevo in southern Serbia, dropped off some 2,000 migrants in Berkasovo over the last 24 hours.
After a short break, groups of migrants continue their journey by walking along a local road that takes them to the border crossing near Bapska on the Croatian side.
The migrants, mostly from Syria and Iraq, say they are escaping conflict in their countries.
"The situation is not good, the situation is bad in Iraq, you know Daesh, ISIS (referring to Islamic State) near the Baghdad and the situation is not good for people here," Sinan, from the Iraqi capital Baghdad, said.
"We are going to Croatia because we don't have security in our country," said Ammir from Afghanistan.
Once in Croatia, migrants are taken for registration in the town of Tovarnik before being offered transport further to Croatia's border with Hungary.
Hundreds of thousands of people, many of them Syrian refugees, have made the perilous journey by land and boat towards Europe via the Balkans this year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
