  • Story Text: A state of emergency was declared in the Croatian town of Karlovac on Friday (October 16) after some three hundred houses in and around the town were flooded on Friday (October 16). Days of heavy rains in the region caused water levels on two rivers to rise to over 8 metres and overflow their banks.
    Dozens of residents from the worst affected areas had to be evacuated from their homes by boats.
    Some 400 rescue workers struggled to contain the surging waters on the rivers Kupa and Korana, with more flooding possible.
