  • Story Text: Germany's interior minister Thomas de Maiziere said on Friday (October 9) that Europe's external borders need "strong and effective protection". He told a small group of reporters in Erfurt that constructive talks with Turkey are also necessary to solve the migrant crisis.
    "The problem will certainly not be resolved in a sustainable and effective way at the border between Germany and Austria, but rather at Europe's external borders. We need strong and effective protection of Europe's external borders. I can imagine something in the direction of a European coastguard that would take over this task. We need help for the countries where there are refugee camps, so that more are not opened," he said.
    De Maiziere also said all German states must take equal responsibility in accepting refugees.
