- Story Text: Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen says the Tuesday (November 6) U.S. Congressional elections will be the "most secure in the modern era" but stressed the agency would remain on alert to safeguard the electoral process.
Nielsen warned wood-be adversaries not to try and interfere with the election process, saying "Our democracy is not a tool to be used against us and we will not tolerate any attempts to interfere with our elections." She warned of consequences if they pursued.
U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies say Russia used disinformation and other tactics to support President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and influenced the election.
The Russian government has rejected allegations of election interference and Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman declined to comment on allegations of attempts to further meddle in the mid-term elections. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
