I mean I had hoped that they would be better but I was probably optimistic and they could've been worse too, so at least the Democrats have some wins and have the House now." Now he has a clear opponent to go toe to toe with, the House, so I think that will be pretty interesting. It makes his language basically resonant well with his base. But I presume that things will kinda keep trending towards the blue side so, we'll see. Fingers crossed." NEWSPAPER STAND (SOUNDBITE) (English) VOTER, RICK H., SAYING: "I'm very pleased with it. It's good to see that there will be some checks on power. I don't think it'll change absolutely everything. He'll still have some free reign to kind of appoint who he'd like to appoint to the judiciary but I think it's great news for other aspects of legislation so, very happy about it." (SOUNDBITE) (English) VOTER, GREG BORCHERT, SAYING: "I think it's disappointing to that extent but I think the fact that we have a little bit of tension now in Congress is going to be a good thing, it's maybe a little bit more checks and balances." Donald Trump faced greater restraints on his presidency after Democrats won control of the U.S. House of Representatives and pledged to hold the Republican accountable after a tumultuous two years in the White House. Trump and his fellow Republicans expanded their control of the U.S. Senate in Tuesday's midterm elections, following a divisive campaign marked by fierce clashes over race and immigration.
But they lost their majority in the House, a setback for the president after a campaign that became a referendum on his leadership.
With some races still undecided, Democrats were headed for a gain of more than 30 seats, beyond the 23 they needed to claim their first majority in the 435-member House in eight years. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
