I mean, he sometimes has quite aggressive reactions about certain people and about certain journalists. I think that if he's coming to France, it's to try and restore his image and to be seen better by other countries." PASSERS-BY TALKING TO SECURITY OFFICER PEOPLE WALKING PAST CONSTRUCTION SITE (SOUNDBITE) (French) PARISIAN MAN WALKING ON CHAMPS ELYSEES, DANIEL RAZE, SAYING: "First, he is the president of the United States, whatever you might think of him. Our president cannot invite another president. If our president wasn't Emmanuel Macron but someone else, he still has to invite him in the same way. The Americans participated in the war, in the war effort. And today the president invites a president of the United States like he invited Russian President Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel who was on the losing side, of course the English, the Australians, the New Zealanders and Africans too. He also invited the president of Mali, the presidents of several African countries. And today it is very difficult to say, 'I'll invite other presidents but not the president of the United States', even if it is Donald Trump who is not very well liked in Europe." PEOPLE WALKING ON AVENUE CHAMPS ELYSEES (SOUNDBITE) (French) MAN FROM CROISSY-SUR-SEINE WALKING ON CHAMPS ELYSEES, ETIENNE CARTIER, SAYING: "'America first' is fine but I would say 'the World first'. And Trump is a little restrictive and it's a shame for the world but also for the United States as well." - Story Text:Preparations are under way in Paris ahead of the arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump for the commemoration ceremony marking 100 years since World War One armistice.
The ceremony will be held at the Arc de Triomphe on Sunday (November 11).
The signing of the Armistice agreement took place at 11 am on November 11, 1918 in a train carriage near the town of Compiegne, two hours from Paris.
Trump's visit comes at the end of a week-long memorial tour to battlefields across northern France undertaken by French President Emmanuel Macron to pay respects to soldiers killed between 1914 to 1918.
Trump will be joined by dozens of heads of state including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
An anti-Trump demonstration staged by left political parties, NGOs and activists is expected to take place at the symbolic Place de la Republique in Paris on Sunday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
