- Story Text: At least six people were injured in a rampage which broke out after Indian army recruitment camp was cancelled on Wednesday (November 12) according to local reports.
People in the city of Gwalior, in the country's central Madhya Pradesh state, vandalised shops and set cars alight, saying there were irregularities in the selection.
Police used tear gas and baton charged to disperse the crowds.
A senior police official said that management had struggled with the large turnout of people and so cancelled the rally.
"The management was unable to handle the huge crowd of candidates, so they decided to cancel the recruitment rally after which candidates went on a rampage. Administration had difficult time controlling the mob. We are trying to send back the candidates to their respective places," said Senior Superintendent of the Police (SSP) Santosh Singh.
Nearly 15,000 candidates from nearby districts turned up on Wednesday morning for the rally held at the local fair ground.
