- Story Text: Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni is desperate to see more consistency from his batsmen ahead of the sixth one day international against Australia.
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has put the onus of his middle order batsmen to perform when they face Australian in the sixth one day cricket international in Guwahati on Sunday. (November 8) Australia leads the series 3-2 after a thrilling three-run win in game five on Thursday. (November 5) It was Australia's second successive win in the seven game series and Dhoni admitted his batsmen needed to produce in the final two matches.
"This is one of the series where the middle order has not performed consistently," he siad.
"OK, we have done well in patches. It is we are not performing in each and every game. It's not a worrying thing. But of course it's good if we get a good start so that the middle order and lower order capitalise on that."
Dhoni rejected suggestions that stress was a the main reason for the defeats.
"We play throughout the year so whether it is a five-match series or seven-match series or test match, we don't have a longer break between the series. After this we will have to play against Sri Lanka so it's not a fact," he said.
Meanwhile, Australia has added motivation to win the game and wrap up the series with a game in hand.
"For our team it would be nice to remain as number-one team," vice captain Mike Hussey said of the world rankings.
"It is not the whole thing which motivates us. What motivates us is to try and win this series against India, that's all we are really focussing on at the moment. I guess that if we do that, then the by-product is that we remain the number one team." - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
