Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday (February 11) and held bilateral talks.
Earlier, he was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the presidential palace in the presence of Modi, interior minister Rajnath Singh and foreign minister Sushma Swaraj.
Mohammed bin Zayed arrived in India on Wednesday (February 10), and was received by Modi.
This is the second time Modi broke protocol and personally received a world leader; he first went to receive U.S. President Barack Obama in 2015.
Both countries had agreed to elevate the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Modi's two-day visit to the UAE in August 2015 - the first by an Indian prime minister since Indira Gandhi's trip in 1981.
As part of his visit, Mohammad bin Zayed lay floral tributes to India's iconic freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial in the capital.
India and the UAE are expected to sign a number of agreements across sectors including a landmark civil nuclear cooperation deal and a deal on security and information sharing to combat militants.
Mohammad bin Zayed is due to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and is expected to discuss issues of mutual interest. He will also visit the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in the financial capital Mumbai on Friday (February 12).
UAE is India's third largest trade partner with the bilateral trade between the two amounting to US$ 59 billion in 2014-15. UAE is among the largest investors in India in terms of foreign direct investments. It contributes significantly to India's energy security and was the sixth largest supplier of crude oil to India in 2014-15. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
