- Story Text: Department of forest in India's central Madhya Pradesh state sets up recovery wards for the treatment of peacocks, the country's national bird.
Department of forest in India's central Madhya Pradesh state has set up two recovery wards to provide treatment to India's national bird, peacock.
Hundreds of peacocks have been killed due to excessive heat in the past couple of years.
The department has set up an operation theater, ICU (intensive care unit) and recovery wards to treat the peacocks.
"For past 2-3 years peacocks died because of excessive heat. This year a new experiment has been done by the forest department .Two new recovery wards have been set up for their recovery, one is outdoor ward and other is ICU (intensive care unit). In these wards all medical facilities will be provided," said Krishnamurti, (DFO) Divisional forest officer.
Services of doctors and other staff will be available round the clock in the wards.
"This type of project has started for the first time. Because this is a special project for peacock and particularly our focus is on peacock treatment" said Jagannath, Doctor.
