- Story Text: Norwegian challenger, Magnus Carlsen on Saturday (November 16) won the sixth game of the 12-match World Chess Championship series against Indian Grandmaster and defending champion, Viswanathan Anand.
Carlsen now leads 4-2 in the series.
A total of 12 games will be played till November 26 on a glass-encased, soundproof stage at a five-star hotel in Chennai.
Their first four matches ended in draws.
The Indian Grandmaster was visibly dejected and restricted his answers to media at the new conference to small sentences.
"I mean, today is a heavy blow and I won't pretend otherwise but nothing to be done. You just go on," said Anand.
Anand was playing with white pieces while Carlsen had black.
The Norwegian appeared relaxed during the media interaction, admitting his confidence going into the next round had grown.
"Today I got a pretty solid position early on but I thought I should try to also capitalise on the win yesterday and to press him a little bit today because there was really not much to risk and fortunately I got little bit lucky and I won in the end," he said.
"Obviously I am in a good mood now, I have won two games and with six games to go that's obviously a healthy lead," he added, before both players got up to leave.
One point is given for a win while each player gets half-a-point for every drawn game.
Just 22, Carlsen is considered the favourite after beating Anand in their last encounter in June. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
