- Story Text: India successfully test fires BrahMos cruise missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-Sea, in the eastern state of Orissa.
Indian ballistic scientists successfully test-fired the 290-kilometre range BrahMos cruise missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-Sea off the eastern Orissa coast on Thursday (December 2).
The supersonic cruise missile with precision strike capability was test-fired from a mobile launcher.
The missile can fly at 2.8 times the speed of sound and can carry conventional warheads weighing up to 300 kilograms for 290 kilometres.
BrahMos can effectively engage ground targets with conventional warheads from an altitude as low as 10 metres.
The Indian Navy has begun the process of including the first version of BrahMos missile system in all front-line warships from 2005.
BrahMos is capable of being launched from multiple platforms like submarine, ship, aircraft and land based Mobile Autonomous Launchers (MAL). - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
