The Test match here was hard, playing out here in India. The one-dayers too, it's not just the seven one-dayers, but we are travelling all over India. It's going to be a tough two-and-a-half weeks. - Story Text: STORY: The India cricket team practised on Monday (March 27) for the
one-day series against England without batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who was in a
London hospital for surgery on a shoulder tear.
The injury ruled the 32-year-old out of the seven match one-day series
against England beginning on Tuesday.
Tendulkar will be out of action for eight weeks so he could miss the
start of India's West Indies tour.
The batsman had only recently returned to action after missing six
months out with an elbow injury.
Tendulkar holds the world record of 35 test centuries but has been
struggling for form and in the tied Test series against England averaged
20.75.
Although India only drew the test series with England, the team was
confident about the one-day series, having recently beaten Pakistan.
England will be hoping to carry their resilient test series form
against India into the seven-match one-day series.
The team had an extensive net practice on Monday at the Ferozhshah
Kotla grounds.
Captain and all-rounder Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff can look back four
years to when he inspired the English to draw a six-match one-day series in
India.
Day matches in the summer heat and travel across the vast nation will
sap the players in a series where batsmen are expected to dominate on flat
pitches.
Flintoff told a news conference on Monday: "The Test match here
was hard, playing out here in India. The one-dayers too, it's not just the
seven one-dayers, but we are travelling all over India. It's going to be a
tough two-and-a-half weeks. And as for saying which one's harder, I'm not
quite sure, but, you know, both are equally tough.
England will need to focus on improving their running between the
wickets and showing patience on pitches where the ball may not always come
onto the bat.
Their five-run defeat in a one-day warm-up on Saturday was marred by
four run outs and batsmen holing out to the deep.
India captain Rahul Dravid's side hope to maintain their recent
improving one-day form after the subdued display in tests. Dravid expects
England to offer tough resistance in one-dayers, in spite of missing many
senior players.
"They have been playing some very good one-day cricket of late as
well. They have got some very good impact players in the middle order, you
know, people like (Andrew) Flintoff and (Kevin) Pietersen on their own day can
be very dangerous. They have got a good bowling attack and you know I think
they have got a good fielding side. So they should be a very good side,"
Dravid said. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
