Lewis Hamilton says passionate crowds at the Buddh International circuit in Greater Noida will make the Indian GP one of the best races of the year.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (October 24), the McLaren driver compared the event - which takes place this weekend - to some of Formula One's best-established events, including the Spanish and British Grand Prix.
"The track, obviously they are great to drive. But I think generally when you have good races, when you have good crowds, I think that what makes your weekends," he said on Wednesday. "So you got to go to some races. In Singapore for example tons of people turn up to Singapore. When you go to Silverstone it is just so full of roaring fans and the same when you go to Spain, the same when you go to Montreal and those really special circuits, the city comes alive, and the circuit is just alive because of all the fans so. I think all the fans what will make it a really special event," said Hamilton.
At another event in northern Haryana's Gurgaon city, Mercedes Team driver, Nico Rosberg, also said that it was great to return to India for this year's Grand Prix.
"Yes it is great to come to India," said the man who will drive alongside Hamilton for Mercedes next year.
"It is great that F1 had made it happen to have race here because there is so much potential in this country and so many fans also who like to support us. So it is great and they have managed to make a really nice track. It was really fun to drive on this track. We had a really great race last year. And I look forward to similarly doing again this year and maybe managing together the podium with my Mercedes car, that would be fantastic," Rosberg said.
This year's edition of the Indian Grand Prix is slated to be held on October 26, 27 and 28 at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.
The circuit has 16 corners (nine of them right-handers) and cars hit a maximum speed without using DRS of 315kph. Average lap speed last year was around 206kph. The 1.12km straight is one of the longest on the calendar. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
