- Story Text: A library in Azamgarh in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state claims to have an Islamic holy book, The Quran, hand written by 6th Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in it's collection.
This ancient Quran, which is 300 years old, is kept in the Darul Ulum Edara Library in Azamgarh district, near Lucknow.
According to the library owner, Mualana Abdu Mannan Chishti, the Quran is written in Arabic language by one of the known Mughal emperors Aurangzeb.
"He (Aurangzeb) knew Arabic very well. He had done a proper course in the language. Not by study alone, " said, Mualan Abdu Mannan Chishti, library owner.
Further, he also reveals that a thief gave this Quran to his father in the year 1956, who had stolen the holy book from a Museum along with gold and other expensive jewellery displayed there.
The library caretaker, Mohammad Azaz, after looking at the fine details of the Quran, confirms that it belongs to the Mughal period.
"I can say with confidence that this Quran belongs to Mughal Period because the paper that is used in Quran, the gold water work that is embellished on the pages and the intricate artwork that is done with gold water simply proves that the Quran belongs to the Mughal period, as this cannot be afforded or done by a common man in that period, " said Mohammad Azaz, library caretaker.
There are 30 lessons in Quran. Of these 26 lessons in this book are written in gold water and the rest four lessons are written in the normal course. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
