- Story Text: Violence erupted in Guwahati city of northeastern India's Assam state on Wednesday (June 22) after the state police resorted to baton charge on protestors rallying against an eviction drive to remove the illegal occupation on government land.
The police retaliated as the marching protestors pelted stones on the policemen.
The police also used tear gas shells to disperse the protestors.
The protestors burnt vehicles and engaged in scuffles with the police.
Several persons have been reported injured in the violence.
According to media reports, the protest rally was organised by farmers' body 'Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti' (KMSS) and social activist Akhil Gogoi led the rally. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
