- Story Text: Australian middle-order batsman Mike Hussey said that he hopes his team can recover from their dramatic first Test defeat against India in time for the second Test starting in Bangalore on Saturday (October 9).
Vangipurappu Laxman scored an unbeaten 73 to script India's unlikely one-wicket victory on the final afternoon of the first Test in Mohali on Tuesday (October 5). Resuming on 55 for four and chasing a victory target of 216, India appeared dead and buried in the last hour before lunch but an 81-run ninth wicket stand between Laxman and Ishant Sharma set up the opening win of the two-test series.
Following an optional practice session in the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Thursday (October 7), Hussey said that much of the Australian team was still resting following the defeat but were aiming to be ready in time for the second Test.
"We just had an optional session; so, about some probably half a team came down today and the boys are in good spirits. The rest of the boys particularly the fast bowlers, are trying to recover as best they can, because there was obviously a pretty gruelling test match in the last five days in Mohali. So, it is a big focus on recovery, and yeah, we want our skills in good shape as well. I think the guys are trying today, probably take it pretty easy tomorrow," said Hussey.
He described the previous Test match in Mohali as a tough one but added that the Australians had taken the defeat positively and looked forward to levelling the series in Bamgalore.
"It was great a Test match, it is disappointing to lose and it's probably a Test we should have won, we had our opportunities to win, but we could not get over the line, get the job done. So, from that point of view it is disappointing, but I think from a positive point of view, we did a lot of things right, but to play against the you know the number one team in the world, and we have quite a young team really," said Hussey.
India also has injury concerns, with opening batsman Gautam Gambhir and fast bowler Ishant Sharma missing with knee problems. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
