- Story Text: The body of Jacintha Saldanha, the Indian nurse who died days after an Australian radio station made a prank call to the London hospital treating Prince William's wife Kate, reached Manipal in the southern Indian state of Karnataka on Sunday (December 16).
Since there were no storing facilities in her hometown Shirva, around 30 kilometres south of Manipal, Saldanha's family decided to keep the coffin with her body at the mortuary of Kasturba Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (KMC Hospital) in Manipal.
Earlier the body was flown in a special chartered aircraft from London and it had reached the port city Mangalore via Mumbai before being transported to Manipal.
Saldanha's funeral will take place on Monday (December 17) in Shirva.
A close relation of Saldanha said her funeral would take place after 4 O'clock in the evening.
"Tomorrow around 12 O'clock, we will collect the body of Jacintha Saldanha and take it to her home at Shirva. Jacintha's mother, aunt and other relations will be there. Later around 3 O'clock, say for an hour, the body will be taken to the church for the local parishioners and others to take part in the funeral services at the church. That may go on till 4 O'clock," said Stephen Fernandez.
He added that Saldanha's husband and children had arrived with her body and were resting after the jetlag.
Saldanha apparently committed suicide after taking a prank call from two Australian radio DJs to inquire about the condition of Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, who was being treated for severe morning sickness at the King Edward VII Hospital in London. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
