- Story Text: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday (March 17) dismissed the plea of Narayan Dutt Tiwari, former governor of India's southern Andhra Pradesh state, challenging the paternity suit filed by Rohit Shekhar, claiming to be his son.
"What honourable judge has said in a line or two after coming, that our appeal has been accepted. We had appealed against the decision of justice Dhingra, that has been accepted. Next hearing is on April 7, and the court has asked both the parties to be present, meaning that the case would be heard on the basis of merit," Shekar said in national capital New Delhi.
Shekhar's petition says that Tiwari began neglecting him and his mother Ujjawala Sharma after 1995. Tiwari even refused to meet him when he became the state chief of northern Uttarakhand province.
Justice S N Dhingra had on November 3, 2009 said the suit filed by Shekhar was not maintainable and allowed the plea of 84-year-old Tiwari who had sought dismissal of the petition.
Meanwhile Tiwari refused to comment on the development saying that he had no information.
"I don't know, I have not received any information and nor can say anything on this," he said in Dehradun, provincial capital of Uttarakhand state.
Last year Tiwari, a senior leader of federal ruling Congress party, had to resign as the governor of Andhra Pradesh following allegations of his involvement in a sex scandal. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
