- Story Text: A wild bison that strayed out of its jungle habitat in Jaldapara Sanctuary and entered Darikamari, a village in Vokasdanga region of Cooch Behar district in India's eastern state of West Bengal kills two persons and injures at least five others.
A raging wild bison which strayed out of the Jaldapara Sanctuary and entered Darikamari village in Vokasdanga region of Cooch Behar district in India's eastern West Bengal state ran amok killing two persons and injuring five more people on Tuesday (October 13).
The bison literally acted like a bull in a China shop, attacking and plundering whatever came in its way ever since it entered the village just around dawn time till the forest rangers had to be summoned to drive it away.
"It arrived at around 5'o clock in the morning and entered two houses and attacked two people. They were taken to hospitals but were declared dead," said Paresh Roy, a resident of Darikamari village.
The entire village is up in arms against the local administration for the failure to stop the wild bison going on rampage by contending that the state's Minister of Forests hails from this very region and elected from here.
The villagers blamed the forest rangers for arriving late despite sounding an emergency call to them.
According to the locals, the forest officials emerged on the spot after 5 long hours of the villagers enduring the irate bison also known as the Indian Gaur.
The forest rangers and wildlife wardens had to fire tranquilisers to silence and relocate the inert animal back into the jungle. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
