- Story Text: For the first time, French expatriates living in India, and elsewhere overseas, will get the opportunity to vote for their own lawmakers, in parliamentary elections on June 10.
France's Ambassador to India, Francois Richier, on Thursday (April 5) said more than 7000 French citizens living in India were eligible to elect lawmakers to their country's parliament.
"7150 French citizens living in India can vote. There will be 10 polling stations in Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Pondicherry and Mumbai," said Richier.
He added that another first for the French government was the establishment of 11 overseas seats to represent expatriates across the globe.
India is part of a designated overseas electoral district which takes a swathe of the globe, including Asia, Australia and Russia.
France's parliamentary elections, held on June 10 and 17, will follow the country's presidential polls on April 22. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
