- Story Text: Valie Trierweiler, the former partner of the French president, visited a hospital in Mumbai and met patients on Monday (January 27) as part of a campaign against child malnutrition, her first public appearance after her separation from French President Francois Hollande.
Trierweiler arrived in Mumbai on Sunday night (January 26) and her charity trip is aimed at working to help children in the country fight malnutrition and hunger.
At the Sion hospital, she met with relatives of patients.
"(They don't have the same) means as us, there are no incubators here, there is nothing at all. It's made an impression to see these children in a state of malnutrition just now," she said.
About a fifth of Indian children under the age of five suffer due to acute lack of nutrition, UNICEF says. According to the World Bank, the prevalence of malnutrition among children in India is among the highest in the world.
Trierweiler is also expected to launch the first Indian organisation dealing exclusively with acute malnutrition. She will meet Indian business women at a scheduled lunch.
Hollande announced his separation from Trierweiler on Saturday (January 25) following a media storm over allegations he is having an affair with an actress. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
