An orderly crossing and an orderly entry into a country is no longer happening. This is why in this emergency situation we are forced to act accordingly." WIDE OF NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (German) AUSTRIAN CHANCELLOR, WERNER FAYMANN, SAYING: "So far, the office of public security and I are not aware of one single case where Germany would have turned someone back. To put in your language, they let them into the country. I see a close coordination here and I expect to act just like Germany, letting people who are fleeing into the country. If someone should be among them who for some reason has to be turned back, the police have to justify it. The right to asylum will not be suspended." PHOTOGRAPHER (SOUNDBITE) (German) AUSTRIAN CHANCELLOR, WERNER FAYMANN, SAYING: "I wish all borders and the cooperation with all countries of the European Union were only half as effective as the one with Germany." - Story Text: Austria is following Germany in introducing tougher border controls, and it is deploying the army to assist in dealing with an influx of migrants, Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner told a news conference with Chancellor Werner Faymann on Monday (September 14).
"Everything the EU has prepared with Dublin 2, Dublin 3 and other measures is superfluous because all of these measures and installations and regulations are based on the assumption that there is an orderly crossing," Mitterlehner said in Vienna.
"An orderly crossing and an orderly entry into a country is no longer happening. This is why in this emergency situation we are forced to act accordingly."
Faymann said he did not know of a single case in which Germany had sent a migrant back to Austria since Berlin announced on Sunday (September 13) that it was reintroducing border controls.
"I wish all borders and the cooperation with all countries of the European Union were only half as effective as the one with Germany," the chancellor said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
