- Story Text: Indonesian police on Friday (September 11) said a security guard who worked at the apartment where a Japanese woman was found dead has been arrested in connection with her death.
The body of 28-year-old Yoshimi Nishimura was found in her Casa Grande Residence apartment Monday (September 7) by her driver and workers at the building two days after she died.
Police said the suspect, identified with an initial "MJ", was working as a security guard in the building. He allegedly killed her after he broke into her apartment.
"He worked as a security in that apartment and his main motive was to steal the victim's belongings," said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Tito Karnavian.
Karnavian added the suspect, who was arrested on Thursday (September 10) admitted he was the culprit.
"The suspect admitted that he stole the belongings of the victim but there was no sexual abuse. Our physical examination also showed that the victim didn't experience any sexual abuse. But we'll not stop here. We'll continue to investigate and look into other evidence before coming to a conclusion," said Karnavian.
The victim was working in the finance general affairs department for Japanese company Yamaha and just moved to the city three months ago, Japanese media reported.
The cause of her death is yet to be determined as the investigation is ongoing.
Police have not officially charged the suspect but Karnavian said the suspect could face the death penalty if found guilty of murder. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
