- Story Text: Poland's President Andrzej Duda said on Tuesday (September 8) that he was against migrant quotas imposed on the European Union's member states.
"I do not agree with such a Europe, where economic dominance or superior population is the reason that other countries, in a way, will have arbitrarily specific solutions imposed on them without taking into account their special characteristics, without taking into account their interests, in particular their national interests. Because then there is no partnership. That's when I formed divisions. And then the principle of "divide and rule" begins to rule, which is not a principle of the [European] community," Duda said at the Krynica Economic Forum.
Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarivic added that the scenes of crowds of migrants at the borders of the EU were just "a small fragment of the bigger issue", saying that they had "expressed a certain level of solidarity to resolve the imminent crisis.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday that Europe needed to implement a joint system for dealing with asylum seekers and agree to binding quotas on how to distribute refugees across the continent. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
